MyLucyZ Beauty Supply Store: The Once Hidden Gem of North Charleston

(April 2021, MyLucyZ Beauty Supply Store Grand Opening!)

They say you never miss a good thing until it's gone, and as of April 30th, 2026, the community of North Charleston either has already felt it or will begin to feel it very soon. After five years of business, the once hidden gem of the North Charleston area, MyLucyZ Beauty Supply store, officially closed its physical doors for good.

Owner, Myra Wright

Myra Wright, owner of MyLucyZ started out selling products online but was encouraged to open her own storefront as it was lacking in the community. "Beauty Supply Stores are considered staples in our communities, but we often never see anyone that looks like us running them," said Wright. Wanting her store to be more than just a store, she crafted the vision of her store to be a loving environment as well as a safe place for all women, but specifically black women.

Though she could see the vision clearly and knew it was needed in the community, she began to come up against major roadblocks in her journey. Despite facing discriminatory practices from vendors who typically sell to Chinese or Korean owners, Wright pushed through this roadblock that tried to stop her. Even having a representative from a popular brand investigate her store and location, stating to Wright, "We were shocked! You don't talk black!", thinking to herself "what does back sound like? Ghetto? No education? It was truly disheartening." Online data says that black consumers spend approximately $9.4 billion on beauty products, but with stores like MyLucyz being blocked at every turn it’s hard to get a portion of that revenue in sale when it’s impossible to get the products in the store to sell at all.

Getting to the moment Wright had been working so hard for was finally here! Wright was optimistic and eager to serve her community, but over time, the community was nowhere to be found. Things were not going the way Wright had envisioned things to be. Unable to keep up with the demand of popular products that customers were seeking, Wright began to worry about the longevity of MyLucyz as customers would whisper, “Let’s just go to Hair Depot.” Though disappointed, Wright said, “I only wished they knew what I went through just to get here, but I can’t compete…I can only run my own race.” And run her own race she has done indeed! Customer Trellany Simmons said, “I wish I could support her business more at times, so I try to buy something, but ultimately, she doesn’t always have what I need, which forces me to go to other stores in the area.” To keep MyLucyz visible, the windows were dressed up with hair models, flags that read “beauty supply” were placed outside to attract new customers, and a content creator was hired to create eye-catching marketing.

Wright has now sucessfully ran MyLucyZ beauty supply store for five years and came to the hard decision to physically close her store. Doing everything to keep her store in the forefront of people's minds as well as trending social media trends, some people just don't recognize a good thing until its gone. Though she only closed her physical doors to sell all of her products online, MyLucyZ Beauty Supply Store simply deserved more! As a loyal customer, I found myself looking for a new store to grab quick products from and recognized a few other customers who needed products as well in another location.

So here are my flowers to you! THANK YOU, MRS. MYRA! MyLucyZ Beauty Supply was everything this community needed and more and despite how things may have seemed it was needed. Know that you are loved and appreciated for all that you've done and sacrificed for your community. If you need an online store to shop with for specific products you can't find in store, MyLucyz Beauty Supply Store is your one-stop shop that will supply you with what you need.

Catch Them While You Can! The Top 10 Food Trucks In Charleston that are giving fast food a whole new meaning!

A Listicle

Fast food restaurants will never go out of business, as it's a quick and easy way to grab a meal on the go, especially while traveling on vacation. But what about those regular days where you're not in the mood for the same ole same old McDonald's, Wendy's, or Taco Bell? As someone who works directly across from a McDonalds it comes to a point where you simply can't eat that food all the time. A new wave of food trucks has taken over the lunch rush hour scene, and to find them, I personally use StreetFoodFinder.com. I put their app for quicker access to the information I need at a moment's notice when I want to eat something different. Check out my top 10 Food Trucks that are taking over Charleston with unique taste and flavors that represent different cultures of the city.

Here's Some Food For Thought!

Don’t Be Fooled, It Might Say All Day, But Miller's Is Only Open Through Brunch!

Millers All Day - James Island
1956 Maybank Hwy Unit A
Charleston, SC 29412

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Saturday, April 4, 2026 - 12pm
(out of focus-Aleena, Debra, Aneace, & Mark Feaster)

Easter weekend in Charleston was full of busy streets, shopping centers, and restaurants. Join my family and I as we stop into Miller's All Day for a late breakfast, also known as brunch, located on James Island. The restaurant had a steady flow of patrons in and out of the establishment and the room was filled with laughs and conversations. The decor gives an a beach boys music video vibe with records against the wall and an old school photo booth in the corner near the bar.

Be aware that a popular restaurant like this one that has a second location in the downtown area of Charleston is sure to have a wait time and a wait they did but not an unbearable amount of time like one may think on a busy weekend like Easter. After a 15-minute wait, we were seated and our waitress, Amy brought us a carafe of water and asked us what we would like to get started with. We all ordered a glass of sweet tea, which is a staple here in the south

After giving us some time to check out the menu our waitress came back to see if we were ready to order or if we wanted to get any appetizers in first before our order. My mother and sister ordered the banana bread to share, crab fritters, a cinnamon roll, and I ordered french toast sticks that were DELICIOUS! They were not your average french toast sticks, they reminded me of their banana bread or carrot cake type filing. They were extremely dense yet fluffy like a cake.

(Bannana Bread, Cinnamon roll, Crab Fritters, and French Toast Sticks)

About 10 or so minutes later, Amy returned and took our order after giving us our appetizers and it was something we truly appreciated because the service was consistent and the food was hot and made fresh. That's one thing I can't stand when going to a restaurant, is for the food to be lukewarm and not hot at all even though I just ordered it. The table got pretty quiet as we enjoyed the delicious food set before us indulging in every bite. Needless to say, we all had a good nap when we got home!

Q&A: Vibing With Dre

Shondre Lynch
ife will sometimes take you on an unexpected journey you never thought you would take, but that's the thing about life...it's all about how you make it! You know how the saying goes, tell God your plans and watch him laugh. I found this statement particularly true about my interviewee and the journey he has taken in his life to step outside of what was so that he can tap into the passions lived within him. Shondre Lynch, who goes by Dre for short, took his initial first steps of self-discovery back in June of 2006 after graduating from high school and preparing himself to attend South Carolina State University as a member of the Call Me Mister program. He kept a steady pace and went on to graduate in 2010 with a BA in Education, then followed that path into a teaching position, which he did for a year. After that one year of teaching, he came to the realization that it wasn't actually the path he thought he wanted to continue down. Changing the direction of his journey to find new passions within him took some time, but anything worth having is worth fighting for.

Lynch, centered at 2010 graduation for SCSU

SAJ: Hey, Dre! How are you today? I really appreciate you taking the time out to speak with me today and allowing me to officially introduce you to my audience.

Dre: What's up, Aneace! I'm doing pretty good, just getting ready for an event, but you know I couldn't leave you hanging. I got you. And thank you for having me.

Lynch and Myself while I take a break at work
(2013)

SAJ: If you've been following my earlier blogs, then you've probably heard my Campus Connection mix a few times, which featured our special guest here! He is the last voice that introduces me before I begin my segment. We connected as friends at SC State 20 years ago...and have been friends ever since. Wow, time really flies!

Dre: I know! You remember when I used to come bother you at work when you worked in the mall?! (Laughs) Yeah, pure shenanigans!

SAJ: (laughs) That's a throwback right there! I definitely do, and if my memory serves me correctly, you had a wrestling show that afternoon. How did you go from teaching to getting into wrestling?

Dre: You know what, I did have a show that day, that's crazy! I actually started wrestling in Spartanburg on June 14, 2008, well before I officially started teaching. My stage name was DeAndre Jackson.

SAJ: Oh wow, I didn't know that. I thought this started after teaching. Did you only wrestle in the state of South Carolina or did you get to travel anywhere else to perform or meet any pro wrestlers?

Dre: Yeah! Over the course of 18 years, I've traveled to Canada, Texas, and a few other places where I got to meet some of my hero's. Honestly, a surreal moment in time.

SAJ:18 years! Wow, that a long time, but I guess it doesn't feel like work when it's something you love to do. Was wrestling your main focus or did you dabble in anything at the time? If not, are you still wrestling now?

Dre:  I dabbled in art around 2014 and sold a few pieces to so it definitely gave me some creative freedom to express myself. That creative freedom transpired into writing a book titled "Thoughts of a soulful heart: A Love Story." With age comes wisdom, and now I'm at the point where I've decided to transition into a helping role model for other wrestlers who are just starting out, so they can learn the business.

SAJ: That's amazing and honestly smart. I'm sure these wrestlers appreciate all the knowledge you've shared with them. A book is amazing! I love the title and I'm sure that was therapeutic to get out.  So when did music come into play because Ive heard some clean beats on tik tok lately and they sound so good!

Dre: Music started for me back in 2020 during the pandemic, essentially when everyone else began picking up hobbies just to pass the time. Dillion of the 9th wonder was my inspiration to believe I coul do it too to where now Ive worked with a few artist and created music for their projects. In fact, the event I'm headed to is the SC lo-fi, a producer cypher centered around networking and sharing our beats with different producers and artists.

SAJ: That sounds like so much fun! I love it when a hobby and passion turn into a career! I feel the same way about content creation and my writing. Well, I don't want to hold up too much of your time. I know you're headed to an event, but let the people know where they can follow you and check out your work, and we'll chat more next time!

SAJ: You are so welcome and I can't wait to hear what God has in store for you have in store for you in the future. You can follow Dre on any of his socials that he provided in the interview and get into all of his dope works of art. We hope this interview has inspired you to go for your dreams and goals.

New York: A Concrete Jungle Where Dreams Are Made Of!

 WELCOME TO NEW YORK
This Is My Sister & I in NYC for the First Time!

Watch our recap reels on Instagram:

My sister and I always plan trips for our birthdays to travel somewhere new and adventurous. We just experienced our first Mardi Gras in New Orleans for my birthday when the announcement dropped for the Tenth Anniversary of Hamilton on Broadway, featuring Leslie Odom, who would be reprising his role as Aaron Burr. My sister looked at me and said this is it! I know what I want to do for my birthday, and a trip to New York to see her favorite Broadway musical that she has watched on Disney+ countless times was it.
      Hamilton
We had a four-day trip planned from October 31st until November 3rd, returning on the morning of the 4th. You know what they say about God and making plans, they don't always go the way you think! Walking out the door to head to the airport for our one-way trip from Charleston, SC to JFK at 11am turned into a phone call notifying us that our flight was cancelled. Well, not just our flight...ALL OF THEM!
Being in big sister mode to help her sister not have a horrible birthday, especially since the Hamilton tickets were already paid for along with the hotel, got on the phone and got the flight rebooked for later in the day, and now we were flying out at 6pm and a connecting flight with a short layover instead of a straight shot there. We didn't arrive in New York until after 12:00am, pulling up to our hotel, The New York Marquis on Broadway at almost 1am, losing the full day of our trip, but realizing...THE CITY WAS FULL OF LIFE!

It was absolutely one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen! Picture it! Times Square at 1am on Halloween, and everyone is OUTSIDE! Usually, you arrive in town, and it's quiet and a small group of people are walking around, but not here. I mean, everyone was in the streets, the music was playing, and there was nothing but laughter in the air. It was at that moment that we were no longer upset about what was the situation but happy with the moment we were in now. Since we were already full into our trip at this point we grabbed food from one of the food trucks outside our hotel and enjoyed the atmosphere and excitement that was New York.

Later that day, after getting a bit of sleep, we explored the city. I had a surprise for my sister as we could not come to NYC and not have our name in lights, so I rented a billboard for a day and it's the best gift I've ever given her. Afterwards, we went shopping and ate lunch at our hotel before getting ready for the show we'd been waiting for, Hamilton, and it did not disappoint! Amazing from start to finish. Leslie Odom received a standing ovation before he could even sing a single line of the opening act.

The next two days of our trip, we went on to explore Bryant Park during their Winter Park Series, showcasing their ice rink and food booths from popular chefs promoted all over TikTok. We had lunch at Burger and Lobster and enjoyed delicious mocktails and appetizers that I rank 10/10! Highly Recommend. We had dinner again at the restaurant in our hotel, then we went to check out Stranger Things: The First Shadow Broadway show, and it was absolutely amazing and attention-grabbing from the very start. On our last day we ventured out of Times Square to Brooklyn. The views were BREATHTAKING. Enjoying lunch at Times Out Market in the heart of Brooklyn we explored the city and made our way to Chinatown and Cuts and Slices Pizza before heading back to our hotel to pack for our departure. I was so sad to leave but going back is absolutely a must.

Have you been? Tell me in the comments or suggest your favorite places in New York for me to try.
