Welcome Back Aneace Janel!

It's week two of school, and the journey to my degree is back on for the next six months! It's truly a surreal moment being back here...well, not physically back there since I'm taking my classes online. I'm a lifetime member of the Marching 101 Band, where I played the clarinet for two years.

I left South Carolina State University almost 14 years ago after giving birth to my son, and now I'm back to finish what I started. This was honestly a goal I thought was impossible to obtain, but I thank God I was wrong and He worked it out for me. I took the steps to officially receive my associate's degree and applied to come back to the place I once called home. After falling in love with writing and creating content over the years, I changed my major to Communication and Journalism to do what I love in life. So now to make my dreams come true, I'm giving it everything I've got and working a full-time job, being a full-time mom, and now officially a full-time student. Whew, this is a lot, but it's worth it!  Will you join me on my journey? I have a feeling I'm in for the ride of my life, and I can't wait to see what all God has in store for me!

Work Life, Motherhood, and School...How I Do It?

My son has been my motivation for everything that I do in life. In the middle of my college career, I gave birth to him in January of 2010 and became a working mom. I've worked in the retail customer service industry for years as an assistant manager and now work for a state government agency. In between this time of working full-time, I tried to take a class here or there, but my level of determination wasn't where it is now. Mentally, I was drained from working two jobs, raising my son on my own, and trying to finish getting my degree. Thank God I had a tight circle around me that wanted to help me in any way they could and uplift me in dark times.

After 10 years out of school, I saw a sign that said free tuition, and I told myself it's time to get this degree, and I was able to get it in a year. Getting my associates, working a full-time job, and raising my son to be an upstanding young man did not come easy, but with great sacrifice. I would go to work in the morning, do my homework on my breaks, go home to take my son to track practice, then cook my son dinner, and then go back to doing homework. I graduated in May of 2025, and now I'm right back in school to get my bachelor's degree. So let me be your motivation...if you want it, go get it! The road is never easy for anything you truly want in life, but believe in yourself! You can do ALL things through Christ! He'll never leave you nor forsake you.

"The World Is Your Oyster"

                                                                      The Feaster Girls

As my sister and I like to say, "The World Is Your Oyster". A phrase that generally means that you can go anywhere and do anything, as the world is full of opportunities. I fell in love with writing and creating content, which led to creating my main platform and sister joint page @thefeastergirls. Now that I'm back in school, it's my prayer that with the current courses I'm taking, I'll be able to use what I've learned to build upon my skills and build my portfolio for future opportunities in the world. We have been blessed with the opportunities to speak on natural hair panels, be influencers for Charleston Natural Hair Expo, travel to different festivals, as well as popular cultural events for content. I wouldn't call myself a professional, but these skills in writing, along with creating content, has allowed me to be able to work with a black owned beauty supply store in my community to create advertisements for them. I'm excited for this school year and all the experiences I'll be able to add to my toolbox if you will of learning so that I can pull them out when needed in the future. We have a lot more places to go, so you have to stay tuned to see where we're headed next.
