Aside from the birth of my son, May 2nd, 2025, has become
one of the most important days of my life!
After being out of school at that
time for almost eight years, I made a decision to go back to school and work on
obtaining my associate degree until I could get my bachelors, but my level of determination wasn’t there. I
felt like I couldn’t keep up with the work, handling being a single mother, balancing
my career life, and my personal life at the same time. So, I gave up on myself
and took a break from school again, but you know those moments where the light
bulb goes off and it’s like it just clicks for you? So, in May 2023 as I was
driving home from work, I noticed a billboard that stated free tuition, and I
knew it was time to finish what I started. I owed it to my parents who have supported
me despite my flaws, I owed it to myself, and finally my son who was motivation
to keep going when I wanted to quit. Though I had a number of credits, I worked
tirelessly to finish all of my core classes that I needed to qualify for
graduation come hell or high water as they say. December 6, 2024, I made it
through my last course in tears, and I had finally made it to the finish line. From
that moment, I was on an emotional high.

The months seemed to fly by from
celebrating my birthday in New Orleans in February, to taking my graduation
pictures in March, to finding the perfect dress in April and getting my hair
done perfectly, and finally May 2nd, 2025, at 3pm I walked across the
stage at the North Charleston Coliseum in front of my family and loved ones. After the long nights and sacrifices, my son was able to see my hard work pay off and celebrate this important moment in my life. My family went all out to celebrate me and gave
me a beautiful graduation party filled with all my loved ones that brought tears to my eyes. I can't thank God enough for all that He's done for me and I'm excited to know that the next big day will be here before you know it!
